We build the one percent of digital products.
Lumen
Lumen's legacy terminal was powerful but slow. Traders worked around it instead of through it. We rebuilt the core experience from first principles: reducing latency, cutting steps, and making speed feel inevitable.
Lumen's desktop terminal had been the industry default for a decade, but its interface hadn't kept pace with the speed of modern markets. Key workflows required 18+ clicks. Latency on order placement averaged 320ms:an eternity in algorithmic trading. Traders built macros, workarounds, and muscle memory to compensate. Activation on new accounts was declining quarter over quarter.
The brief was blunt: make the terminal disappear. Speed should feel like a feature of the product, not a reward for learning it.
We embedded with Lumen's top 20 traders for the first two weeks:screen-recording sessions, mapping hotkey usage, cataloguing every workaround. The data was clear: 80% of activity touched just four workflows, but those workflows were buried under layers of navigation designed for edge cases.
We stripped the interface back to those four flows, promoted them to first-class surfaces, and pushed everything else into a contextual command palette. Prototyping happened in code from day one:latency is invisible in Figma.
“One Percent rebuilt our terminal in a quarter. It is the fastest product we have ever shipped:and the one our customers won't stop talking about.”
The new terminal is a single adaptive canvas. Panels dock, stack and resize fluidly. Every interaction is keyboard-first with pointer fallbacks. We replaced the legacy rendering pipeline with a WebGL-powered chart engine and a local-first data layer that pre-fetches market ticks:bringing median action latency from 320ms to 40ms.
The design system we delivered includes 84 components, dark and light themes, and a token architecture that maps directly to Lumen's existing Tailwind codebase. Hand-off was a merge request, not a spec.
Within 60 days of launch, new-account activation rose 2.4 times. The 14 steps we removed from the core order flow translated directly into faster execution and fewer user errors. NPS jumped 38 points. Lumen's sales team now demos the terminal as a competitive advantage:not an apology.
The engagement has since expanded into Lumen's mobile companion app and a forthcoming API developer portal. We're still working together.
